Yerevan Open international chess tournament kicks off

On the initiative of the Yerevan Chess Federation and with the support of the Armenian Ministry of Education and Culture and Yerevan City Hall the "Yerevan Open" International Chess Tournament has started in Yerevan, which is being held for the 4th time this year.

Yerevan hosted the tournament for the first time in 2016, the second time in 2017 and the last time last year. Every year the circle and geography of the participants expands. This time, 292 chess players from 15 countries participate in the Yerevan Open, of which 55 have international titles and 22 are grandmasters. Participants from Iran, Georgia, Russia, India, Ukraine, Lithuania, France, the United States, Kazakhstan, Singapore, Australia, Greece, Turkmenistan, and of course Armenia.

The total prize fund is 14 million drams. Cash prizes are stipulated for the chess players who took places 1 to 20. In particular, the winner of Group A will receive 2,600,000 drams, ESCS website reports.

The 1st and 2nd place winners, the winner in the category of chess players over 50 years old and the winner in the Group B under-10 competition were also awarded.
