Football match ends in tragedy: 127 victims
10:30 2 October, 2022Tragically ended the match of the 11th round of the Indonesian Football Championship between the teams Arema and Persebaia. Arema lost 2:3. Thousands of fans of the team stormed the field and a fight with the police ensued. According to Reuters, 127 fans were killed. Two police officers were also among the injured.
Later it became known that 42 thousand fans attended the match at the stadium with 38 thousand seats.
After the tragedy, the Football Association of Indonesia has suspended matches for a week. Arema stadium was disqualified until the end of the season.
