US Open qualifiers: Elina Avanesyan advances to 2nd round

Elina Avanesyan (Russia) won her first match in the qualifiers for the US Open being held in New York.

In the first round of these qualifiers, the 19-year-old Russian Armenian tennis player defeated Laura Pigossi (Brazil) in two sets—6:4, 6:4. The match lasted 1 hour and 14 minutes.

Avanesyan's opponent in the second round of the qualifiers will be the winner of the match between Maja Chwalinska (Poland) and Tara Wurth (Croatia).

The main tournament of the US Open will start on August 29.
