FTX Crypto Cup: Aronian suffers second consecutive defeat

Levon Aronian, the former leader of the Armenian men’s national chess team who now represents the USA, lost to Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa (India) in the fourth round of the rapid chess competition of the FTX Crypto Cup being held in Miami.

In the first round, Aronian had defeated Le Quang Liem (Vietnam), in the second round, he had beaten Jan-Krzysztof Duda (Poland), and but in the third round, he had lost to reigning World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway), who leads the current standings, with 12 points.

Aronian is fourth, with 5 points.

Seven rounds will be played in this tournament.

The FTX Crypto Cup prize pool is $210,000 plus $100,000 in bitcoin.

The FTX Crypto Cup is a tournament of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, whose the total prize pool is $1.6 million.
