Bundesliga: Bayern kick off new year with defeat

Reigning champions Bayern Munich played host to Borussia Monchengladbach in the 18th round of the German Bundesliga, but lost 1-2.

Bayern, however, still top the current Bundesliga standings, with 43 points, and are 9 points ahead of second-place Borussia Dortmund, which have played one less than one match. Monchengladbach are eleventh, with 22 points.
