Armenia’s Karen Tonakanyan scored a victory at the World Boxing Championships in Belgrade.

In the 1/16 final in the 60 kg category, the bronze medalist of the European Games faced off against Mali’s Abdul-Kareem Batil and knocked him out in the third round.

Tonakanyan skipped the 1/32 final without a competition since his opponent had tested positive for COVID-19 and hadn’t shown up.

Later, Arman Darchinyan (71 kg), participant of Tokyo 2020, will come out to the ring and will put his strengths to the test with Kyrgyz boxer Nurdarin Rustambek in the 1/16 final.

On the fifth day of tournaments of the World Boxing Championships, out of Armenia’s 3 representatives, the first participant was Vahe Badalyan (54 kg), who competed with Taipei’s Yu-Hang Leen and won 5-0 in the 1/16 final.
