Messi breaks Pele's record

Thanks to scoring a hat-trick in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia, Lionel Messi, the 34-year-old Argentine star forward, has broken Brazilian football legend Pele’s record for the most number of goals scored for a South American national team.

Messi has increased the number of his goals for Argentina to 79. Three-time World Cup champion Pele had netted 77 goals in 91 appearances for Brazil.

Also, Messi made his 153rd appearance for the Argentine national squad where he has made 52 assists so far.
