Neuer: Liechtenstein, Armenia, Iceland not opponents you meet in World Cup playoffs
09:15 9 September, 2021Germany and Bayern Munich star goalkeeper Manuel Neuer commented on their 4-0 win over Iceland in the sixth round of the group stage in the European qualifiers for the 2022 football World Cup in Qatar.
"Of course, Liechtenstein, Armenia, and Iceland are not the opponents you will meet in the playoffs of the World Cup, but in any case it was important to send positive signals. Our [i.e., Germany’s] goal is to become the world champion next year.
We have a new coaching staff, and several young players have joined us. It is not possible to make so many changes in an instant, but we are on the right track. We want to continue in the same spirit," Neuer said, the UEFA press service reported.
Germany are the current leaders of Group J, with 15 points, and Armenia are second, with 11 points.
