Tokyo 2020: Ukraine's first champion at Olympics, MP Beleniuk plans to focus on politics

Greco-Roman wrestler Zhan Beleniuk, who scored Ukraine’s first gold medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo and is a deputy of the ruling party in the Parliament of Ukraine, has talked about his plans for the future.

Beleniuk said he’s not thinking about the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris at the moment and will be entirely focused on politics, Sport.ua cites Beleniuk.

Beleniuk, 30, was born in Kyiv. His father was from Rwanda and died during the civil war that took place there, and Beleniuk’s mother is a Ukrainian.

In the final for the 87 kg category, Beleniuk competed with Europe’s champion, world’s vice-champion, Hungarian Victor Lorincz and won 5-1. Beleniuk is also vice-champion of Rio 2016.
