Tokyo 2020: Armenia's Izabella Yaylyan fails to score a medal (PHOTOS)

Izabella Yaylyan failed to score a medal at Tokyo 2020. Today the Group A women’s 59 kg weightlifting tournament was held at the 32nd Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo where Armenia’s representative Izabella Yaylyan won 7th place after lifting 205 kg in the biathlon (95+110).

Yaylyan successfully lifted 90 kg during the snatch, and she confidently snatched the 95 kg bar during the second snatch. After the snatch drill, the 26-year-old athlete scored the fourth result among the nine participants after lifting 95 kg. During this drill, Chinese Taipei’s representative Hsing-Chun Kuo, who snatched 103 kg.

During the jerk drill, Yaylyan lifted 110 kg. After the second and third attempts, she failed to jerk 115 kg and only had the 110 kg result.

The Chinese Taipei’s Hsing-Chun Kuo became the Olympic champion. Turkmenistan’s Polina Guryeva scored the silver medal after lifting 217 kg, and Japan’s Andoh Mikiko scored the bronze medal after lifting 214 kg.

Armenia’s other representative, vice-champion of Rio 2016 and two-time European champion Simon Martirosyan (109 kg) will perform on August 3.
