The 32nd Summer Olympics’ opening ceremony, which is being held without spectators due to the coronavirus-restrictions, is in progress in Tokyo, the capital of Japan.

The Armenian delegation also took part in this event taking place at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium.

Armenia’s flag bearers were swimmer Varsenik Manucharyan and boxer Hovhannes Bachkov.

Armenia entered the stadium in 12th place in this procession, which will be attended by 206 delegations.

Armenian President Armen Sarkissian is also in the stands.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, however, full delegations are not attending this opening ceremony.

Of the world leaders, only French President Emmanuel Macron is present at this event.

Armenia will have 17 athletes competing in eight sports.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics had been postponed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic, and they will be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021.
