Olympic VLOG: Armen Melikyan

NEWS.am Sport continues to present its Olympic VLOG program about Armenia’s athletes who have qualified for the 32nd Summer Olympics to be held in Tokyo. 

Armen Melikyan, Greco-Roman wrester, 60kg weight category

He was born on February 7, 1996 in Vagharshapat (Etchmiadzin).

He is the 2013 European junior champion, and the 2015 and 2016 youth medalist of Armenia.

In early 2017, he left sports and temporarily went to work abroad.

At the end of 2017, he returned to Armenia, participated in the country’s senior championship, and won gold in the 60kg weight category.

He has been a member of the Armenian senior national team since 2018.

In 2019, he placed first in his weight category at the U24 world championship in Hungary.

On May 8-9, 2021, he became a champion in the ranking tournament held in Bulgaria, thus qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics in the 60kg weight category.

Armen Melikyan will compete in Tokyo on August 1.
