Olympic VLOG: Izabella Yaylyan

NEWS.am Sport continues to present its Olympic VLOG program about Armenia’s athletes who have qualified for the 32nd Summer Olympics to be held in Tokyo.

Izabella Yaylyan, weightlifter, 59 kg weight category

She was born on January 4, 1995 in Yerevan.

Izabella Yaylyan is the 2009 and 2010 European Junior silver medalist, the 2011-2012 European Junior champion, the 2013 European youth bronze medalist, the 2014 and 2015 European U21 champion, and the 2017 European U24 bronze medalist.

Yaylyan became the seniors’ champion of Armenia in 2018. She won a silver medal in the snatch at the 2019 European Championship, and placed fifth in combined total. She is a silver medalist in the snatch at the 2021 European Championship, and she was fourth in combined total.

The Armenian national weightlifting team has been given the right to two—one man and one woman—spots at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, and Yaylyan's respective spot was approved on June 11.

Izabella Yaylyan is scheduled to compete in Group B of the 59 kg weight category at Tokyo 2020 where she will compete on July 27.
