Olympic VLOG: Koryun Soghomonyan

NEWS.am Sport continues to present its Olympic VLOG program about Armenia’s athletes who have qualified for the 32nd Summer Olympics to be held in Tokyo. 

Koryun Soghomonyan, boxer, 52 kg weight category

He was born on May 16, 1993 in the village of Zovuni, Kotayk Province.

Koryun Soghomonyan has been boxing since he was 8 years old. He is a multiple champion of Armenia, became a champion at the World Junior Championship held in Yerevan in 2009, participated in the World Junior Championship in Baku in 2010, but failed to defend his aforesaid title.

He is the 2011 European Junior champion, and 2012 European U23 champion. In 2015, he placed fifth in the seniors’ European Championship.

In 2017, Soghomonyan took a two-year break from sports.

He returned to boxing in 2019, and in the same year he won the Leather Glove qualifying tournament held in Yerevan in December.

He qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in an Olympic ranking tournament that had started on March 16, 2020 in London, but was interrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Koryun Soghomonyan will enter the boxing ring in Tokyo on July 26.
