Paris Rapid & Blitz: Levon Aronian wins 5th place

Levon Aronian won fifth place at Paris Rapid & Blitz, the second stage of Grand Chess Tour.

The Armenian chess grandmaster scored 17.5 out of the possible 36 points. On the second day of the blitz matches, Aronian defeated Richard Rapport, Vladimir Kramnik, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, tied the matches with Peter Svidler, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Alireza Firouzja (FIDE) and Fabiano Caruana and was defeated by Wesley So and Teimour Radjabov.

On the first day of the blitz chess tournament, Aronian defeated Teimour Radjabov, Peter Svidler and Wesley So, tied the matches with Richard Rapport, Vladimir Kramnik and Fabiano Caruana, was defeated by Alireza Firouzja (FIDE), Ian Nepomniachtchi and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave.

During the rapid chess tournament, the Armenian chess grandmaster tied the matches with Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Alireza Firouzja (FIDE), Teimour Radjabov, Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So and Richard Rapport, defeated Etienne Bacrot and was defeated by Peter Svidler and Ian Nepomniachtchi.

Two points were given for victory in the rapid chess tournament and 1 point for a tie; 1 point was given for victory in the blitz chess tournament and half a point for ties.

The total prize fund of the five tournaments of Grand Chess Tour comprises $1,275,000.
