Armenian national football team manager: We lacked aggressive game, sportive "evil" a little

The manager of the Armenian national football team, Joaquin Caparros, summed up their training camp during which they played a 1-1 draw with Croatia, but lost 1-3 to Sweden in their friendlies.

"There are negative and positive moments in every game. We played against a very strong team [i.e., Sweden], which are preparing for Euro 2020. We must sum up the negative phenomena in ourselves.

Our midfield was full of completely new footballers; these four footballers played in the midfield for the first time. We lacked aggressive game and sportive ‘evil’ a little, especially in the first half. First of all, we need to improve our game in standard situations. Our boys are not very tall, so we must work in that regard and figure out how to control the opponents.

The positive thing is that we saw and checked the new boys. Now we have more real information about those guys, as everything is revealed in the game.

I am very satisfied with this [training] camp, and I assess it very positively. We wanted to see the new footballers in such difficult games.

Another very important aspect is the atmosphere in the team, which is getting better and better, and we are satisfied. The boys [in our squad] have a wonderful relationship with each other; they are together 24 hours a day. Team spirit must be the strong point of our team," said Spaniard Caparros.

Armenia will be hosted by North Macedonia on September 2 and by Germany on September 5 in the group stage of the World Cup qualifiers. And on September 8, Armenia will host Liechtenstein in the capital Yerevan.
