New In Chess Classic: World champion Carlsen defeats Armenia’s Aronian, reaches the final

Levon Aronian (Armenia) lost in the semifinals of the New Online Chess Classic, another online competition of the Champions Chess Tour by World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway).

On the second day of the semifinals, the Armenian grandmaster lost 1-3 to Carlsen, who qualified for the final. The first day of their semifinals had ended in a 2-2 draw.

In the other semifinal, Hikaru Nakamura (US) beat Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan).

Aronian will face Mamedyarov for the third place in this competition.

The winner of New In Chess Classic will be announced on Sunday. The prize fund of this competition is 100 thousand US dollars. The winner will receive 30 thousand dollars, the runner-up—15 thousand dollars, and the third—8,500 dollars.
