North Korea (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) has decided that it won’t participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in July-August, The Guardian reports, citing the press service of the Olympic Committee of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The decision was taken on March 25 and has just been reported to the international presses. North Korea says the reason for this decision is to protect North Korean athletes from the coronavirus pandemic.

Tokyo 2020 was postponed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic and will be held from July 24 to August 9 this year. The tournaments will be held without foreign sport fans since Japan will ban their entry into the country.
