Airthings Masters: Levon Aronian to compete with Hikaru Nakamura during quarter final

Armenia’s leading chess player Levon Aronian won 6th place after the initial stage of the Airthings Masters Chess Champions Tour and will compete with American chess player Hikaru Nakamura during the quarter final.

Aronian tied the matches with Pentala Harikrishna (India) and Daniil Dubov (Russia) and was defeated by David Anton (Spain) during the three rounds of the third day. The Armenian grandmaster scored 5.5 out of the possible 11.

The four pairs of the quarter final are world champion, Magnus Carlsen (Norway) and Dubov, Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaijan) and Ian Nepomniachtchi (Russia), Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France) and Wesley So (USA).

The matches of the quarter final will take place on December 29 and 30.

Airthings Masters is the second stage of the Champions Chess Tour, which will end on January 3. The winner will receive a $60,000-dollar reward and a pass to the Grand Final to be held in September 2021.
