Skilling Open 2020: Armenia’s Aronian advances to quarterfinals

Armenia’s top chess Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian amassed 8.5 points and took the 5th place after 15 rounds of the Skilling Open 2020 online rapid chess tournament organized by World Champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway), and advanced to the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Aronian will face Russia's GM Ian Nepomniachtchi (Russia).

The prize fund of Skilling Open 2020 is 100 thousand US dollars, and the winner will receive 30 thousand dollars.

This tournament is the first round of the Champions Chess Tour—with a $1.5mn prize fund. The chess players who reached the quarterfinals will also participate in the next-round tournament, too.
