Armenian national football team captain and Roma midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan thanked Italian Senator Matteo Salvini, who is also Federal Secretary of Lega Nord Party, for protesting with the Armenian community of Italy on Tuesday in support of Armenia and Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).

Thanks to Senator Salvini, who raised his voice for justice and the right of the people of Artsakh to life, Mkhitaryan wrote on Facebook.

“We must not forget the destruction and suffering experienced by the people close to us and about which there is very little talk. Armenians were the first to experience the horror of genocide, and now they are being persecuted in Nagorno-Karabakh. If the European Union is significant, protect our brothers and the fore post of European civilization in the Middle East and the Caucasus,” Matteo Salvini himself had written on Facebook.

On September 27, the Azerbaijani armed forces—assisted by the Turkish army—launched a large-scale attack against Artsakh, targeting its civilian population, too.
