Venus Williams loses in first round of Monterrey tournament

Venus Williams lost the first round match in Monterrey to Anna Karolina Schmiedlova.

Five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams did not manage to reach the second round losing 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Awaiting the 25-year-old in the second round is No.9 seed Marie Bouzkova, who eased past Schmiedlova's compatriot Kristina Kucova in straight sets earlier in the day.

The prize money of the tournament is $275 thousand.
