European Wrestling Championships: Karen Aslanyan scores bronze medal

Armenia’s representative in the 67 kg category Karen Aslanyan scored a bronze medal at the European Wrestling Championships (Greco-Roman wrestling) ending in Rome. During the competition for the third place, the Armenian wrestler competed with Hungary’s representative Kristian Istvan Vanza and beat him 7-5.

After being defeated 0-3 in the first round, Aslanyan picked up the pace and made an impressive 4-point roll from the tribune during the first round. At the last seconds, he added the score with a 2-point toss. The match ended with a score of 7-5 after a persistent struggle.

This is Aslanyan’s third bronze medal that he has scored at the European Wrestling Championships. The Armenian wrestler also scored bronze medals in 2018 and 2019.

Aslanyan began from the qualification round in which he beat Swedish wrestler Oscar Erlandsson 3-1, beat Georgian wrestler Georgy Shotadze 9-0 during the 1/8 final and beat Serbian wrestler Mate Nemes 10-1 during the quarter final. During the semi-final, Karen Aslanyan was defeated by Russia’s representative Nazir Abdulayev 3-4 during a highly intense competition.
