European Wrestling Championships: Gevorg Gharibyan declared European champion after impressive victory

In the final for 60 kg category wrestlers at the European Wrestling Championships (Greco-Roman wrestling) taking place in Rome, Armenia’s representative, European youth champion Gevorg Gharibyan competed with multiple world youth champion, Turkish wrestler Kerem Kamal and scored the title of European champion with a score of 5-5.

Gharibyan started actively. The referee identified the Armenian wrestler as being passive, but Gevorg Gharibyan defended himself in the tribunes wonderfully. In the second round, the Armenian wrestler performed a beautiful 4-point cast, thanks to which Gevorg Gharibyan won. During the entire match, the everyone in the stadium was screaming ‘Armenia’.

Gharibyan began the struggle from the qualification round during which he beat Bulgarian wrestler Augustin Boyanov Spanov 9-1 and scored a brilliant victory over Azerbaijani wrestler Murad Bazarov (8-0). He didn’t have any problem during the match with Estonian wrestler Hillary Maygisalu during the semi-final.

The 26-year-old wrestler scored his first serious victory in the adults’ team.
