Former U.S. president Barack Obama said Kobe Bryant was a legend on the court and was about to start the second act as he paid tribute to the basketball legend who died in a tragic helicopter crash in California on Sunday.

“Kobe was a legend on the court and just getting started in what would have been just as meaningful a second act. To lose Gianna is even more heartbreaking to us as parents. Michelle and I send love and prayers to Vanessa and the entire Bryant family on an unthinkable day,” he tweeted.

Bryant ended his basketball career in 2016. Together with Los Angeles Lakers he won five NBA titles.

The basketball legend also won two Olympic golds in Beijing and in London.
