Legendary Armenian wrestler Benur Pashayan dies

Legendary Armenian wrestler Benur Pashayan has died. Armenian Greco-Roman wrestling national team coach Samvel Gevorgyan told this to NEWS.am Sport.

According to Gevorgyan, Pashayan had had health problems in recent years.

Benur Pashayan was born on April 15, 1959 in Azavret village of Akhalkalaki region of Georgia.

He was a two-time European (1981, 1982) and two-time world (1982, 1983) Greco-Roman wrestling champion.

In 1986-1989, Benur Pashayan headed the national Greco-Roman wrestling team of Armenia. In 1999-2000, he was the President of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia.
