Bach says IOC bound by WADA decision on Russia

10:50   10 December, 2019

Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), commented on the decision of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) regarding ban of Russia.

According to him, WADA decisions are binding on the International Olympic Committee and the IOC is committed to the rule of law and they will implement the decision, RIA Novosti reported.

The reason for the strict sanctions of WADA are frauds detected in an anti-doping laboratory accredited in Moscow aimed at hiding the positive doping tests of Russian athletes (for 2012-2015). Russia was also deprived of the right to host major international competitions in the next four years.

Russia may appeal against the decision of WADA in the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne. If the appeal is rejected, Russian athletes who are not related to anti-doping rule violations will be able to participate in international competitions under the IOC flag.
