Nadal: Khachanov's defeat was a surprise

Rafael Nadal said the defeat of Karen Khachanov in the first round of the US Open was unexpected.

Four out of ten best tennis players, among them Russia's Karen Khachanov, were defeated in the first round.

In tennis one should respect each rival, and Khachanov's defeat was a surprise, Nadal said.

Rafael Nadal defeated Australia's John Millman 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round.
