Former Celtic defender and captain William “Billy” McNeill passed away Monday at the age of 79, the website of this Scottish football club informed.
McNeill spent his entire professional career at Celtic where he made 790 appearances, and this record still stands.
The club won nine Scottish league championships in this time, and in 1967, it won the European Cup.
