PyeongChang 2018: Netherlands skater shows middle finger at award ceremony

Dutch speed skater Sjinkie Knegt has been caught up in a controversy over photos in which he appears to stick his middle finger up during the award ceremony, after coming second in the Men’s 1,500m Short Track at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Fans believe that this was an offensive gesture to South Korea and its Lim Hyo-jun, who became Olympic champion in this competition.
“It looked like I put up the middle finger. It’s not intended,” Knegt said, according to The Korea Times. “I just looked very bad in the photo, but it was not on purpose. I was just holding the medal.”
