FIDE chief in Yerevan, plays chess with Armenia President

YEREVAN. – Armenia is again the first among the FIDE family to establish a scientific research institute of chess; this will be a turning point in world chess.
World Chess Federation (FIDE) President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, who is in capital city Yerevan on the invitation of the President of Armenia and the President of the Chess Federation of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, told the aforesaid to reporters.
The President of Armenia and the FIDE chief on Friday jointly opened the “Chess” Scientific Research Institute of Armenia.
“This center is the first in the world, and Armenia again was the first to launch the founding of such a scientific research center,” Ilyumzhinov noted, in particular. “In 2011, Armenia was the first from the 188 countries in FIDE to include chess in the educational system in schools, as a mandatory subject.
“Armenia is the first in everything in the world chess family. You also have an international chess academy.”
In addition, the FIDE President told reporters that, during his stay in Armenia, he met with President Sargsyan also in front of a chess board, and that their blitz chess match ended in a draw.
