World’s most expensive defender does not write surname on his football club shirt

Liverpool newcomer Virgil van Dijk has decided to play at the English football club without his surname being written on his team shirt; instead, the Dutch defender’s name will be on it.
Van Dijk, 26, has made such a decision because of his tense relations with his father, according to the Mirror newspaper of the UK.
The Dutch international’s father had left his mother with three children and taken no part in their upbringing. For this reason, the Dutch defender believes that his father does not deserve seeing his last name on the Liverpool shirt.
Virgil van Dijk recently became the most expensive defender in football history, as Liverpool paid £75 million to Southampton (England) for his transfer.
