Malaga fire head coach Míchel after fourth straight defeat

Malaga are looking for a new manager after parting company with Míchel following last night’s disastrous 1-0 defeat to Getafe – their fourth consecutive loss.

The Blue and Whites currently sit joint bottom of the table with 11 points, some five points off safety with all of their rivals yet to play in match day 19, La Liga Sport reported.

The club announced his sacking on Saturday through a statement which read: “Sadly, the team has been unable to put together a run of results since the start of the season which has left us in the relegation zone. We feel that a change is necessary to try and turn this around.

“Malaga CF is working hard in this winter market to strength the squad. Having already signed Ignasi Miquel, Manuel Iturra and Alberto Bueno, the club hopes that even more recruits, plus a new head coach, can motivate the group and push us in the right direction.

“We wish Míchel all the best in the future and thank him for his professionalism,” the statement concluded.

Míchel joined Malaga in March 2017 as the club’s third man in the hotseat that season, following in the footsteps of Juande Ramos and Marcelo Romero.
