Man United ex-employee: Di María transfer was only for selling more club shirts

Debora Gomes, former translator of Manchester United (a.k.a. Red Devils), said Argentine midfielder Ángel Di María’s transfer to this English football club in 2014 was an advertisement move, and the Red Devils had signed him from FC Real Madrid (Spain) only to sell more club shirts.
“I noticed a lot. So much so that I had the opportunity to talk to him. And he was unhappy at the club,” Gomes told Brazilian broadcaster Esporte Interativo. “Firstly, he couldn’t communicate with anyone. And second, because he realized the club bought him not because the club thought ‘oh, he will bring titles to us because he is a good player.’
“No. Because they simply wanted to sell his shirts. This I heard inside the club, the people talking. ‘Di Maria sells T-shirts, so let's buy him.’ So he was not happy.”
In the 2014/15 season, Ángel Di María’s shirts were the most sold in the English Premier League.
The Argentine international played one season at Man United, and then he transferred to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG; France).
