World Chess Cup final: Armenia’s Aronian to face China’s Ding

The final will kickoff Saturday at the 2017 FIDE World Chess Cup being held in Tbilisi, the capital city of Georgia.

Grandmaster (GM) Levon Aronian (Armenia) and GM Ding Liren (China) will compete against each other to become the winner of this tournament.

Four classic chess matches will be played in the final; and if there is a draw after these games, there will be a tiebreaker on September 27.

By advancing to the final of the 2017 FIDE World Chess Cup, the two GMs have been eligible to compete in the Candidates Tournament, which will be held in the German capital city of Berlin in March 2018, to determine the challenger for the World Chess Championship.

Aronian, who plays first board for the three-time World Chess Olympiad champions and the former World Team Chess champions Armenia, is the 2005 FIDE World Chess Cup winner.
