Armenian chess leader Levon Aronian commented on his victory over France’s Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in the semi-final of the Chess World Cup.
Aronian said he was happy to have been qualified to the candidates’ tournament which was his goal, and final is a bonus.
“I do not have special preparation for a tiebreak,” he said, adding that one must simply believe in his victory.
Aronian admitted he and his opponent had “problems with nerves” in the semi-final, but this would not work in the finals against Ding Liren.
“The wedding is a great motivaton. My girlfriend is here, she is busy with organization of our wedding. She is rooting for met and she is very happy for me,” Chess-news quotes Aronian.
Another participant in the finals, the Chinese Ding Liren in the semi-final knocked out American Wesley So.
The final is set for September 23.
