Armenian manager sacked from Uzbekistan national football squad

The Uzbekistan Football Federation announced its sacking of national squad manager Samvel Babayan.
The 46-year-old Armenian specialist and his staff were unable to make Uzbekistan qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

The national team’s entire coaching staff has also been dismissed.

After Uzbekistan’s goalless draw with South Korea in their last World Cup qualifier, Uzbek journalists saw Babayan off from the press conference by chanting, “shame [on you].”

Uzbekistan placed fourth in their group, and therefore failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
