Portugal football referee gets death threats

Referee Nuno Almeida received death threat letters prior to the Portuguese Primeira Liga football match between Vitória de Guimarães and S.L. Benfica, according to Record of Portugal.

Subsequently, the referee appealed to police and the Portuguese Football Federation.

As a result, additional security officers are brought closer to Almeida’s officiating team during the match.
Referee Bruno Esteves, who officiated at Sunday’s Primeira Liga game between Sporting Lisbon and C.D. Feirense, also had received such letters.
