Dortmund: We negotiated with Mkhitaryan for 4 months, but to no avail

Armenia national football squad captain and midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Borussia Dortmund (BVB; Germany) could not agree on extending Mkhitaryan’s working contract with Dortmund, informed BVB CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke.

“Over the course of four months, we were negotiating with Mkhitaryan on the extension of the current contract,” Bild daily newspaper of Germany quoted Watzke as saying. “Now, it became clear that there will be no new contract. [But] we never had an arrangement that Henrikh may leave the team before the expiry of the agreement.”

The 27-year-old Armenia international’s working contract with the German club runs until the summer of 2017.

Arsenal F.C., Chelsea F.C., Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United (England), and Juventus (Italy) are interested in his services.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has scored 11 goals and had 18 assists in 31 appearances in the German Bundesliga competition last season for Dortmund.
