Nike has suspended its relations with Maria Sharapova after the five-time Grand Slam tennis champion admitted failing a drug test.
Sharapova had admitted that she tested positive for banned substance meldonium at the Australian Open in January.
“We are saddened and surprised by the news about Maria Sharapova,” the respective Nike statement reads. “We have decided to suspend our relationship with Maria while the investigation continues. We will continue to monitor the situation.”
The 28-year-old Russian tennis star faces a four-year ban.
