Armenia won its first gold medals at the European Weightlifting Championship held in Yerevan. Gor Sahakyan had no equal in the weight category of 67 kg with the result of 320 kg.
The two-time European Youth champion confidently lifted 140 kg from the first approach in the deadlift. For the second approach, Pashik Alaverdyan ordered 145 kg, in the second approach the young weightlifter performed very confidently and surpassed the Turkish competitor by 4 kilograms.
The third attempt failed at 147 kg. Won a small gold medal in this exercise. Gor Sahakyan started with 170 kg in push-ups and confidently lifted the bar. By the second approach, the Armenian coaches added another 5 kg. The young weightlifter pushed 175 kg, too. Sahakyan abandoned the third approach. And in this exercise, the young weightlifter won a small gold medal.
The new European champion surpassed his competitors by 15 kg. Spanish Juan Acaran Mendoza became the European silver medalist with a score of 305 kg (140+165), and the Turk Kaan Kahriman won bronze with a score of 301 kg (141+160).
