The clubs in groups A, B, C, and D on Wednesday played their matches in the penultimate round of the UEFA Champions League group phase.
In Group A, Liverpool beat Ajax 3-0 and qualified for the Round of 16. Liverpool are second, with 12 points, in the current standings in this group. The leaders are Napoli, who achieved their fifth win, with a score of 3-0, against Glasgow Rangers.
In Group B, Brugge, which have already qualified for the Round of 16, hosted Porto and lost 0-4. Porto are currently second, with 9 points, in this group. Atletico Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen played a 2-2 draw; and thanks to this draw, Porto have qualified for the playoffs.
In Group C, Inter hosted Viktoria Plzen, won 4-0, and qualified for the Round of 16. Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the former player and captain of the Armenian national team, opened the score in the 35th minute. This was his second goal for the Milan city club. He stood out for the second game in a row.
Mkhitaryan was subbed off in the 83rd minute. In group C, Inter are currently second, with 10 points. The first are Bayern Munich, which defeated Barcelona 3-0 in their away match. Bayern had booked a spot in the playoffs in the previous round. Barca are third, and therefore they will continue their campaign in the playoffs of the UEFA Europa League. Viktoria Plzen have suffered five defeats.
And in Group D, Tottenham Hotspur played a 1-1 draw with Sporting Lisbon and are the current leaders of this group, with 8 points. Eintracht Frankfurt beat Marseille 2-1. Sporting and Eintracht have 7 points each, and Marseille have 6 points. All four clubs still have the chance to qualify for the Champions League playoffs.
