Julius Baer Generation Cup: Carlsen eliminates Aronian from rest of competition

Levon Aronian, the former leader of the Armenian men’s national chess team who now represents the USA, could not overcome the “barrier” of World No. 1 and reigning World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway) in the quarterfinals of the Julius Baer Generation Cup online tournament.

After winning the first game, Aronian lost the next three games.

Carlsen's opponent in the semifinals will be Vincent Keymer (Germany), who beat Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa (India) 3-1 in the quarterfinals.

The prize fund of the Julius Baer Generation Cup is $150 thousand.

The Julius Baer Generation Cup is the seventh leg of the nine tournaments of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, whose total prize fund is $1.6 million.
