In the first round, the Russian tennis star, who is defending his US Open title won last year, beat Stefan Kozlov (USA), ranked 111th in the world, in three sets—6:2, 6:4, 6:0. The match lasted 2 hours and 1 minute.
In the second round, Medvedev's opponent will be the world's 58th ranked Arthur Rinderknech (France).
The US Open prize fund is $60.1 million.
