FTX Crypto Cup: Aronian loses

Levon Aronian, the former leader of the Armenian men’s national chess team who now represents the USA, lost to Anish Giri (Netherlands) in the fifth round of the rapid chess competition of the FTX Crypto Cup being held in Miami.

Aronian is penultimate in the current standings—and with 5 points.

Reigning World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway) still leads the standings, with 13 points.

There are two rounds left in this tournament.

The FTX Crypto Cup prize pool is $210,000 plus $100,000 in bitcoin.

The FTX Crypto Cup is a tournament of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, whose the total prize pool is $1.6 million.
