Karen Khachanov started the tournament by beating German player Jan-Lennard Struff 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) at the ATP 500 tournament in Hamburg.
The players spent 2 hours and 15 minutes on the court.
In the second round, Khachanov will face the winner of the match Aljaž Bedene (Slovenia) - Fabio Fognini (Italy).
The prize fund of the tournament in Hamburg is 1.7 million euros.
