Spain's Rafael Nadal started with a victory at the Masters tournament in Madrid.
In the second round he competed against Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic, who is ranked 32nd. The world number four won in two sets, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).
In the third round Rafael Nadal will meet the winner of the confrontation between David Goffin of Belgium and Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands.
