Levon Aronian: It's hard to be Armenian and stay Armenian

Former Armenian national chess team leader Levon Aronian made a post on his Facebook page on the occasion of the 107th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

"Today, April 24th is the 107th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. An event that radically changed the path of our nation. In 1915 people like you and me were expelled from our ancestral lands through the efforts of Turkey and were killed or forced to assimilate with other nations.

And as the events of recent years have shown, our enemies have never given up their ambitions to try to revive the Ottoman Empire.

It is difficult to be Armenian and to remain Armenian. As long as we remember and preserve our cultural, religious, and historical identity, we have faced and will continue to face the danger that has haunted us for centuries," Aronian wrote.
