Armenia's Simon Martirosyan becomes world's bronze medalist

During the competition of weightlifters in the 109 kg category at the World Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, two-time Olympic silver medalist, two-time world and European champion, leading member of the Armenia national wrestling team Simon Martirosyan scored the bronze medal after lifting 416 kg in the biathlon.

In the snatch drill, the two-time world champion lifted 188 kg and scored the small silver medal, ceding to champion of Tokyo 2020 Akbar Djurayev by 7 kg.

During the jerk drill, the leading member of the Armenia national team started by lifting 228 kg. For the second approach, Armenia’s coaches requested 237 kg, but Martirosyan failed to lift. Martirosyan scored a small bronze medal during this drill.

In this weight category, champion of Tokyo 2020 Akbar Djurayev scored the title of world champion after lifting a total of 433 kg. Champion of Rio 2016 Ruslan Nurudinov scored a silver medal after lifting a total of 421 kg in the biathlon.
