Xavi: Thank you for the trust, I will aspire to make Barcelona players happy

The newly appointed manager of Barcelona, World Cup winner and European champion Xavi thanked the Catalan club for its trust in him, and promised to make the team's footballers happy.

"We will work, we will manifest 100 percent. This is Barcelona, the best club in the world, and the best club must win [titles]. The demands are the maximum. We have to work very hard. There is a clear objective: winning. I am very positive. I will aspire to make the Barcelona players happy.

I am truly happy. This is the biggest challenge in my career, I am returning home to Barcelona; this is boundless happiness. Everyone did their job. Thank you for the trust of the club," Xavi said, Mundo Deportivo reported.

As reported earlier, the 41-year-old coach’s contract with Barca is expected to run until June 2024.

The Spanish national football squad and Barcelona’s legendary player Xavi has returned to the club, and his official presentation as Barca's head coach will be held Monday.

And his debut as Barca manager will take place on November 20, in their home game against Espanyol in the 14th round of the Spanish La Liga.

On October 28, Barca had fired Dutchman Ronald Koeman as their head coach, and the current acting manager of the Catalan football giants is Sergi Barjuan, who was coaching the second team of the club this year.

From 1998 to 2015, Xavi has won 25 titles in 767 appearances—only behind Messi, with 778—as a player of Barcelona's main squad.
